IWSG – December 2021 – Cover Reveal
IWSG was created by Ninja Captain Alex J Cavanaugh — because Alex understands we need a safe place to congregate, insecurity is part of our creative nature, and together we’re stronger.
On the first Wednesday of each month, you can write on any subject related to your writing journey or adopt the option of answering the month’s question. Either way, you’re in safe territory.
If this sounds like a good place to be, sign up here.
IWSG’s Twitter handle is @TheIWSG and the hashtag is #IWSG.
Every month, a question is announced that members can answer in their IWSG post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or a story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.

This is going to be short this month. The new cover of my next novel is out and I’m seeking reviews. Its release date is sometime in 2022.
Kiss of the Assassin is an international thriller that spans 10 years and takes place in Russia, Cambodia, and Miami, to name a few. If you can offer a review, please email me at joylene[dot]butler[at]gmail.com or message me through FaceBook at: https://www.facebook.com/cluculzwriter. I’ll send you a pdf version, followed by a kindle version as soon as I receive one from my publisher. I will also reciprocate if/when you need a review.
If I owe you a review, let me know. Since the pandemic, I’ve misplaced my to-do list and these days my memory isn’t at its best.
What stresses me out the most? Asking for reviews.
What delights me? Creating scenes that flow and make me forget where I am.
Blurb: Marina Antonovna, a Soviet spy, and Mateo Arcusa, an American homicide lieutenant first meet in Cambodia during the Vietnam War as enemies. Fearful that the most powerful man in the Soviet Union, KGB Chairman Vladimir Kurenkov, has ordered her death, Marina risks everything to defect to the United States. She promises Mateo that her days as an assassin are over. Vladimir is determined to do whatever it takes to bring her back and, by threatening Mateo’s life, forces Marina to break her promise.

ps. If you’re not currently available to do a review, no problem. I have no release date as yet.
PSS. I’m sorry I should have mentioned that Kiss of the Assassin has graphic violence in the firefight scenes that take place during the Vietnam war. There is also profanity in those scenes.

Great cover! It must be wonderful to see the book come together after so many years. Unfortunately, I can’t review right now–work is kicking my butt and leaving me with little time or energy to do much else–but if things slow down enough, I’ll reach out.

That’s quite all right, Janet. Your wellness should always come first. Best to you.
HI Joylene – I hadn’t realised you were still blogging – I get muddled with Feedly/Readers etc …
I love the cover for your new book – I think I can do without the horrors of the Vietnam war … but I do hope you enjoy the publication process and getting plenty of reviewers … I’ll remember to be over in future …
All the best – cheers Hilary

Wow, that’s a striking cover!
Author
Thanks, Deniz!
Woot for the new book! Unfortunately, I don’t have the cycles to do reviews at this time, but I do hope the book is a smashing success when it releases!
Author
It’s okay, Loni. Thanks for your continuing support.
Wonderful cover and a very exciting story. I look forward to reading it.
Author
Thank you, Kalpana!
Wow, you’re so brave, Joylene. I’ve never been able to make myself ask for reviews, although I should have done. I agree with the others about the cover. It’s a stand-out. It’s not my genre, that’s for sure, however, I would like to help with a review.
Author
I appreciate that, Yvette. I just sent you an ePub version.
Your cover is great, Joylene! I would be happy to review your book ~ Just give me some time to get my eyes straightened out! Maybe late February? Will your book also be coming out in print? I’m looking forward to reading it! Take care, my friend, and have a Merry Christmas!
Author
Thank you so much, Louise. I’ll contact you in late February. Your review would be most appreciated.
Asking for reviews is probably worse than asking someone to buy your book. Thank goodness I haven’t had to do that yet. God luck with the new book.
That’s a great cover – full of menace! Funny we should both pick today for our cover reveals;)
Hope it goes well.
Author
Thanks, Jemina. Best of success with your book.
Good Cover! And the blurb sounds intriguing!
Getting reviews is like pulling your own teeth…LOL!
Good Luck, wishing you much success.
Merry Christmas
Author
thank you, Cathrina!
Bravo on an awesome cover, Joylene! I’ve emailed you to talk about reading and leaving a review. All the luck with this new release. The premise sounds truly intriguing. Happy Holidays, my dear!
Author
Thanks so much, Victoria. I sent you a private email. There is a lot of violence in my book. It’s not for everyone and I should have made that clearer.
Your cover is amazing. So many things come to mind. Good luck.
Author
Thanks, Diane.
Yup, asking for reviews is stressful. I used to act in community/college theater, so when the time comes, I think of myself as playing the role of a confident author. It helps–a little. I do like the cover. Crime/thrillers isn’t my genre, but I wish you great success with your new project!
Author
And great success to you too, Sadira.
Hi,
I like the cover and yes, I am more than willing to read the book and do a review. I’ve enjoyed all of the books that I have read so far that have been written by you.
Take care and have a Merry Christmas and a safe crossover into 2022.

Pat, thanks so much! Can’t say it enough.
I’d rather clean ovens than ask people to review my book, so I totally understand how you feel. If you’re not in a hurry, I’ll be glad to read and review for you, Joylene. It will just have to be after the first of next. year. Get in touch and we can “talk”.
Author
thank you so much!
That’s wonderful it found a home and you have a great cover.
Author
Coming from you, Diane, that means a lot. Thank you.
That is a perfect stressor. I agree! It is horribly difficult! Best of luck getting a long list of applicants.
Author
Thanks, Jacqui!
I’d be stressed out asking for reviews too. Or marketing.
Love your cover! I’d be glad to shout out about your book in my Follower News when your book releases. Just email me if you’re interested closer to your book release date.
Author
Thanks, Natalie. Now if I can only remember to do that. LOL. I will. Much appreciated.
Great cover! You’re right, asking for reviews it stressful.
Author
Thanks, Alex.
I read an ARC this one a few months ago. I have a 5-star review ready to go whenever it gets published. It’s a great story.
Author
I know you do. Thanks, Hank! I’ll keep you posted.
Powerful cover! Kiss of the Assassin is real. After years of research, drafts, rewrites, and determination you did it. Congratulations!
As I read the blurb I could feel my body grow tense with fear and anticipation.
Wishing you continued success, mi amiga.
Author
Gracias, Lynn!
Hi Joylene
This sounds very interesting. Definitely my kind of read. But I already have a long list to be finished. I would be happy to read and review after 15 Jan if that would make sense to you and wouldn’t be too late. And if not, I will look forward to the release of your book. Wish you all the very best!
Author
Thanks, Sonia. I’m not in a rush. I’ll get back to you after January 15th. Thanks!
